CONCUSSION

A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body that causes the brain to move rapidly inside the skull. Even a "mild" concussion is serious - recognizing the signs and responding quickly can prevent further injury.

Warning Signs

-Headache or "pressure" in the head

-Dizziness, balance problems, or blurry vision

-Nausea or vomiting

-Confusion, memory loss, or feeling "foggy"

-Sensitivity to light or noise

-Trouble concentrating or slowed thinking

-Feeling more emotional, sad, or irritable than usual

-Sleep changes - sleeping more or less than normal

Seek emergency medical help immediately if the person:

-Loses consciousness (even briefly)

-Has repeated vomiting

-Becomes increasingly confused, restless, or agitated

-Experiences seizures or convulsions

-Has one pupil larger than the other

-Has worsening headache or slurred speech

-Cannot be awakened

What To Do

-When in doubt, sit them out!

-Moniter for worsening symptoms.

-Seek medical evaluation before allowing return to work, school, or sports.

-Rest is key: Limit physical and mental activity for the first 24-48 hours.

-Avoid screens and bright lights if they worsen symptoms.

-Follow healthcare provider guidance for gradual return to normal activity. â€‹
