Earlier this year, EMS Director Bob Kelly informed the Logan County Commissioners that the county had been awarded a $200,000 grant from the Patterson Family Foundation to upgrade communications gear for our first responders. Under this plan, the funds covered procurement of:

  • Two base stations

  • 90 new 800 MHz radios

  • 30 new pagers

This equipment upgrade covered all fire and EMS stations in Logan County: Oakley EMS and fire, Winona EMS and fire, and Russell Springs fire.

Modern, reliable communications are absolutely critical in emergency response. The new radios and pagers improve reliability and clarity during calls, enhance interoperability among emergency units, reduce downtime or failure in old equipment, speed response times when every second counts. The new infrastructure better supports seamless operations and improves coordination in critical situations.

Humberto Marcenaro and Adam Chriss with Kansas Department of Emergency Management came out and trained all first responders on their new pagers and radios.

We are deeply grateful to the Patterson Family Foundation, whose mission is rooted in helping rural Kansas communities thrive. Their support allows small, rural counties like ours to invest in vital infrastructure that otherwise might not be attainable.
