On Monday, January 19th, members of Logan County EMS, the Fire Department, the Police Department, dispatch, as well as Oakley School nurse, Karri Conway, and Connie Weber from Gove County EMS came together for a CPR recertification training. The joint session allowed first responders to refresh essential lifesaving skills while working alongside partners from other agencies. From reviewing proper CPR techniques to practicing AED use and team-based response scenarios, the training focused on staying ready when every second matters.
CPR recertification is more than just a box to check; it’s an important refresher that reinforces best practices, introduces updated guidelines, and builds confidence for high-pressure situations. Cardiac emergencies can happen anywhere, whether at home, at school, on the roadway, or in public spaces. In many cases, it’s the closest responder, EMS, fire, or law enforcement, who begins lifesaving care long before a patient reaches the hospital.
Training together helps Logan County’s first responders strengthen communication and coordination across departments. Working side by side gives teams a better understanding of each other’s roles, improves transitions of care, and helps everyone work more smoothly during real-life emergencies. That kind of teamwork can make a real difference when time is critical.
Throughout the recertification, participants practiced chest compressions, rescue breathing, AED operation, and coordinated response techniques. Instructors emphasized the importance of muscle memory, situational awareness, and remaining calm under pressure—skills that are vital when responding to emergencies in the community.
