Summer in Logan County

When people think about EMS, they often think about the ambulance racing down the road, lights flashing and siren sounding. And while emergency calls are a big part of what we do, there is another side of EMS that we really enjoy; the opportunity to simply be part of our community.

This summer, the crews at Logan County EMS have had the chance to do just that.

From motorcycles rolling through our communities to parades, fireworks, and the Logan County Fair standbys, our ambulances have spent quite a few summer days (and nights) parked at events instead of racing to them.

Run for the Wall

One of the first big events we had the opportunity to support was Run for the Wall.

Watching the MANY motorcycles make their way through the area is always something special. There is a sense of excitement as the riders come through, but there is also a deeper meaning behind the event as participants come together to honor and remember our nation's veterans.

More information on this can be found here.

Fair Parade

There's just something about a small-town parade. The streets fill with families, kids wait eagerly for candy, and everyone seems to know someone in the parade. We are lucky that we get to be there as part of the event, ready to respond if needed, but also enjoying the opportunity to slow down and see our community from a different perspective.

Fireworks

The fireworks display is another summer tradition we were proud to be a part of. Fireworks bring everyone together, and our crews were there to provide standby coverage while the community enjoyed the evening. There's something a little different about sitting in the ambulance on a summer night, watching families gather and waiting for the first fireworks to light up the sky. Even though we weren't sure the wind was going to cooperate, the Oakley Fire Department allowed the show to go on and it was a

spectacular one!

Logan County Fair Standbys

And then there's the Logan County Fair. For many of us, the fair is one of those events that makes summer feel like summer. We were proud to provide standby coverage throughout the fair and the various activities including the Demo Derby, ATV Rodeo, and Mini Broncs/Bulls.

Being at the fair also gives us a chance to interact with people outside of an emergency.

We get questions about the ambulance. Kids want to look inside. Someone stops by to say hello. Those little interactions may not seem like much, but they matter.

More Than a Call

Some of our favorite moments in EMS don't happen during emergencies.

Sometimes they're the conversations around the ambulance.

Sometimes they're a child excited to see inside.

Sometimes they're waving to someone we know as they drive past.

Sometimes they're sitting together as a crew on a summer evening standby.

Sometimes they're simply being present.

This summer has given Logan County EMS a lot of opportunities to do just that.

We are incredibly grateful to all of the event organizers, volunteers, law enforcement officers, firefighters, community members, and everyone else who works hard to make these events happen.

Thank you for allowing us to be a small part of your summer.
